Have you ever prayed for something so hard, worked tirelessly for it, sacrificed and then when it finally arrived……You felt overwhelmed instead of overjoyed? It happens and remember we listen and don’t judge this is a safe space. In all honesty that this was my reality in 2024 and it almost cost me everything I worked so hard for. I had the opportunities I dreamed of – the ones I wrote down, journaled about, and cried for. But instead of celebrating them and being grateful. I got comfortable and found myself buried under the weight of my answered prayers.
The life I prayed for started to feel like a burden.
THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM
As Black women, we often carry the weight of being “strong.” We take on everything—our dreams, our families, our careers—and we do it all with a smile, even when we’re breaking inside. Society tells us we can’t slow down, and sometimes we internalize that. I did.
I turned my blessings into another item on my to-do list, instead of the joy they were meant to be.
My Wake-Up Call
It hit me one day while I was juggling work, motherhood, and everything else life throws at us. I found myself in a meeting where I was close to losing my job. But God being the God he is of course he saved me and instead gave me the wake up call I needed. I then realized not only was I not enjoying the fruits of my labor. But I was too busy focusing on the hustle, the deadlines, the next goal and making costly mistakes . The very things I had prayed for—opportunities, success, and growth—were draining me because I wasn’t prioritizing balance, gratitude, or rest.
That’s when I knew something had to change.
The Plan for 2025: Gratitude, Balance, and Joy
In 2025, I’m moving differently. Here’s how:
1. Gratitude Over Guilt
Instead of feeling guilty for not doing enough, I’m focusing on what I’ve accomplished and how far I’ve come. Gratitude is the key to shifting my perspective. Every time I feel overwhelmed, I’ll remind myself: This is what I prayed for.
2. Rest Is a Priority, Not a Reward
We don’t have to earn rest. Rest is necessary. Whether it’s taking a self-care day, saying no to a commitment, or simply taking a nap, I’m giving myself permission to rest without guilt.
3. Setting Boundaries
I’m no longer saying “yes” to everything. I’m learning to protect my time and energy. That might mean turning down opportunities that don’t align with my peace or stepping away from situations that don’t serve me.
4. Celebrating the Wins
No matter how big or small, I’m making it a point to celebrate my accomplishments. Sometimes we’re so focused on the next goal that we forget to acknowledge how far we’ve come.
5. Thriving, Not Just Surviving
2025 is about thriving—living in alignment with joy, peace, and gratitude. I’m letting go of the “grind culture” mindset that tells us we always have to be working and instead leaning into what makes us happy.
DO NOT FORGET 🖤
If you’ve felt like this, you’re not alone. As Black women, we’re so used to carrying the world on our shoulders that we sometimes forget to enjoy the blessings we worked so hard for. But sis, let me tell you: you don’t have to do it all. You deserve rest. You deserve balance. And most importantly, you deserve to enjoy the life you prayed for.
Let’s Walk Into 2025 Together
This next year, I’m claiming peace, gratitude, and joy. I’m letting go of the guilt and embracing the blessings. If you’re ready to do the same, join me on this journey. Let’s hold each other accountable for thriving—not just surviving—in 2025.
Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV):
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
This reminds us that God desires for us to find rest in Him rather than letting our blessings become overwhelming burdens. When we surrender our cares and anxieties, we open ourselves to the peace and joy He intends for us.
